The Forks Restaurant and Inn is first and foremost a family business.
This unique story brings together two generations, 5 family members, and a LOT of hospitality experience. With a passion for West Virginia and all things outdoors, brothers Trevor and Drew Stalnaker and their uncle, Executive Chef Jon Eric Stalnaker, decided to combine 40+ years of restaurant experience into a business doing what they’re passionate about, in a place they love.
A true D.I.Y. attitude built The Forks. Trevor, Drew, and Eric remodeled the inn rooms and restaurant, doing much of the work themselves including building the bar, many of the dining tables, booths, and room dividers. If it can be done, this family of motivated entrepreneurs wants to do it themselves, and do it better than anyone else is.
The culinary standards for the restaurant are set at an impressively lofty height. They grow most of their own herbs, smoke a variety of meats on-premise, and make everything from mouth-watering desserts and soups to specialty mustards and jams from scratch and on-site! With a diverse (and delicious) menu that changes seasonally, diners always have a new reason to return.
Any dinner shift throughout the week, you’ll find at least 2 of the 3 working around the restaurant. Now that you know more about the establishment, it’s time you met the family…
Trevor Stalnaker – Managing Partner, Owner
Born and raised in Elkins, WV and a graduate of West Virginia University, Trevor knew he wanted to stay in his home state upon graduation. Although many recent grads head out of state to find work, Trevor was so committed to staying in West Virginia, he decided he would be his own employer, if that was what it took to keep him here. After working in restaurants since he was 16 and throughout college, he decided to continue working in the industry he loves so he can continue meeting new people and enjoying the mountain lifestyle.
Trevor enjoys being outside and is an avid fly fisherman, musician, music lover, and traveler. “What I enjoy most about traveling is trying new things and finding unique establishments. Whether they’re restaurants, lodging establishments, or boutique shops, I always take notes on details that I like because I knew one day I’d have an opportunity to draw upon those inspirations and make a really special place for people to enjoy.”
Eric Stalnaker – Owner, Executive Chef
Jon Eric Stalnaker, Executive Chef, brings more than 30 years of experience in culinary arts and restaurant management industries to his current role as the Chef and Owner at The Forks Restaurant and Inn in Elkins, WV.
Eric’s culinary career history is comprehensive, working his way through the ranks at a variety of acclaimed hotels and restaurants in the U.S. and Europe… and earned numerous culinary arts awards along the way. He studied Hotel Management, Nutrition and Business at South Carolina State College where he obtained a dual degree in Hospitality and Business. He also completed a two year culinary apprenticeship through the Hilton Hotel Corporation.
Also a native West Virginian, Eric credits his passion for all things culinary to his late mother. She was an extraordinary woman and an exceptional cook who taught Eric how to craft the type of food that diners seek out and who inspired him to choose the culinary arts as his profession. When not using his culinary skills and expertise to delight diners at The Forks Restaurant and Inn, he enjoys the outdoors, fly fishing, and creating art.
